“Photographer Anna-Lena Winterberger takes much of her inspiration from the places she visits – from Australia to Upstate New York – yet her images have a sense of placelessness, as if they are removed from time.
As with all great photographers, this comes of an adept ability to understand the ways in which light creates mood. Winterberger often does not use a flash, but instead allows the natural light to illuminate her subjects, which (somewhat counterintuitively) flattens the image.
In other cases it is the paradox of hyperspecificity that removes her work from space – […].
By removing the context of these scenes, the viewer is able to concentrate solely on its content, which often confronts the illusions of seeing –sometimes with reflections and sometimes with shadows –in which our normal understanding of space becomes warped.
Complicated in their composition, these works provide such rich visual interest that we cannot look away.”

A room where visitors can relax and participate in guided meditation with Mercedes Club or mini sessions with life coach Beth Mobilian.”

“Celebrating its 12th anniversary, Holiday House takes up residence this year at the Charles A. Platt–designed townhouse at 125 East 65th Street. Though a holiday theme was more prominent in previous years, nowadays founder
Iris Dankner prefers to give the participants room to explore their imaginations without the confines of a theme.”
